Emma Willemse is a conceptual artist, lecturer and curator. Her art-making practice deals with issues of displacement and is informed by her own experiences. Her artworks are technically varied, and include sculptural installations, printmaking, artist’s books, painting and drawing.
Emma has exhibited extensively in South Africa, Africa and abroad, and her works have been included in the Art Bank Joburg, the Eindhoven Collection in the Netherlands and the South African Embassy in Beijing. In 2016 she was part of the Dak’Art Biennale in Senegal, and in 2017 she held a solo exhibition of her artist’s books in Paris.
Emma holds a Masters in visual art from the University of South Africa, and qualifications in psychology and librarianship.
