Although I work figuratively and in abstraction, my approach to the two genres is similar. The work is a construction of spontaneous and sensitive line making juxtaposed with a dynamic use of colour. To achieve this with abstraction I locate an etheric point of balance that decides the exact placement of line and shapes of colour. In my figurative work I explore a dynamic use of line juxtaposed with colour to create metaphors that seek to depoliticise controversial subjects.
I work in a variety of mediums that include oils, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, MDF and paper. My sculptures are created in wood or mild steel and are designed to incorporate both figurative and abstract shapes.
