Andries Dirks
Andries Dirks grew up with his grandmother and grandfather on a farm. He was the only child in the area and there was no school nearby. However, there was clay on the farm out of which he created life-size ‘friends’ with which to play and converse. This was where his love for sculptured developed. Today he pursues a career in ceramic sculpture from his studio in Short Street, Riebeek Kasteel called Klipkind, the name he was bullied with in his youth.
Andries has a Khoi background and is passionate about depicting Khoi history in his work. He has been part of Solo Studios since 2019. His sculptures are on display at the Iziko Museum in Gardens and the Koena Art Institute in Observatory, Cape Town as well as in households around South Africa and overseas in France, Wales and England.
