Design Afrika was established in 1995 to revitalize the ancient craft of African basket weaving. Since then, founder Binky Newman has been crossing the continent in search of artisans who continue to uphold and honour their skills, knowledge and culture. TOTEM is a homeware collection designed and launched in 2021. It has been a dream of Binky’s for many years to curate and design a collection that represents the finest traditional and contemporary furniture and objects from Africa. Steeped in the artisanal traditions and flavour of Africa, TOTEM is a celebration and acknowledgement of African craftsmanship.
