Mare Louise Smit

Mare Louise Smit has built her reputation as a distinctive and unique artist throughout her adult life.

After qualifying as a primary school teacher, she attended the Ruth Prowse School of Art, before returning to the Platteland where she married, raised her two children and taught at a local school.

Throughout her life she has pursued her passion for art, pushing herself to explore a wide variety of mediums from stone to clay, from cement to paper Mache, from wood to resin.

She has exhibited in a number of group and solo exhibitions, and her works are in private collections in South Africa and Europe.

After her retirement from teaching in 2016, Mare Louise was free to immerse herself in her artistic journey. It is particularly fitting that in this, her first solo exhibition since retirement, she has chosen to explore the concept of time in all its facets, From 2019 she take part in many exhibitions in galleries like: Langebaan, Kalkbay, Plettenbergbay, Greyton, Cape town and Hermanus.
