eerstemense – Donker Jonker is a local writer who performs his incisive poetry as “active-wordart”. Guided by multi award-winning director Mark Graham Wilson, his one-man performances produce intense, intimate theatre.  For Solo Studios 2020 he is taking audiences back in time to when the Riebeek Valley was inhabited by the Khoi and San peoples.  Inspired by sculptor Andries Dirks’ Khoi figures, eerstemense weaves a wizardry tale of the human presence in the valley and its effects.  Expect vibrant fire-side theatre in an intimate open-air setting.

The Harlequin’s Needle – Built around projections juxtaposed literally and figuratively with mirroring and monologue, the piece explores the notions of fear, alienation and sexual abuse and emancipation experienced by the queer community through evoking multiple emotional responses and interpretations which are mirrored back to the performer.  Conceived by and starring Georick Veltman aka The Mirrorsister. Directed by Mark Graham-Wilson.

The Olive Branch Project  – Currently, a large scale Riebeek Valley community production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is in the early stages of preparation, with performers and designers exploring the play’s themes of division, prejudice, love and reconciliation.  Solo Studios visitors will have the opportunity to witness the usually private relationship between director and actor through demonstration rehearsals led by Mark Graham-Wilson.  The rehearsals will be complemented by an exhibition documenting Olive Branch Project’s performances, productions and skills transference initiatives.
